THE ZOM ZOM CHRONICLES
Post Title: The CEO of Dairy Mutation Has Entered the Chat
I have seen some terrible things since Tuesday. I watched a man get eaten over an oat milk latte. I watched a guy try to fight a zombie with a wet floor sign. I even wore a scent camouflage made of trash juice. But nothing—absolutely nothing—prepared me for what crawled out of the Maximum Security Quarantine Ward.
The heavy steel door didn't just pop open; it was sheared completely off its concrete anchors with a screech that sounded like a subway train braking on raw nerves.
It wasn't a Zom Zom. It was the CurdTech Abomination.
Imagine a human being that had been stretched, inflated, and genetically reorganized by an evil corporate committee. It stood eight feet tall, with gray, hairless skin that looked like old dough. It had three arms on its left side, all fused together at the shoulder like a tragic bunch of bananas, and a jaw that unhinged horizontally.
It didn't go Zom. Zom. Zom. It made a deep, mechanical, vibrating thrum from somewhere inside its throat.
THRRRRRRRUM.The Sprint of a Lifetime
"Do not look back!" Joe roared from the end of the hall, his hand white on the handle of the generator blast door. "Run, you idiots! Run!"
We ran.
Arthur, the Coupon King, immediately lost his left loafer and began running in lopsided, frantic circles. "My shoe! That was a name-brand orthotic!"
Brenda didn't waste words. She reached into her pocket, pulled out one of the military adrenaline syringes we stole from Medical, and stabbed it directly through Dave's bicycle helmet into his shoulder.
PFFFFSST.Dave’s eyes instantly dilated until they were completely black. A terrifying, high-pitched hum escaped his lips. He didn't just run; he transcended humanity. Dave scooped up Arthur like a sack of laundry, tucked the Nerf gun into his teeth, and sprinted down the hallway so fast his sneakers left literal skid marks on the concrete. He blurred past Joe and exploded into the generator room like a human missile.
I was right behind him, with Mister Whiskers dug so deeply into my shoulder blades I’m pretty sure we share a nervous system now.
Behind us, the Abomination swung its fused mega-arm. It hit a row of heavy metal lockers, flattening them against the wall like aluminum foil. Sparks showered the corridor as it dragged its massive, multi-knuckled bulk toward us.
Inside the Core
I dove through the threshold of the Generator Core, scraping my knees on the steel floor plates. Brenda followed, executing a flawless tactical slide that would have made an action movie star weep.
Joe slammed the massive, pressure-sealed blast door shut.
CLANG.He spun the heavy iron wheel in the center, locking the triple-bolts into place. A second later, the door groaned. THUD. The steel bowed inward about an inch as the Abomination slammed into the other side. The iron wheel spun backward half a turn, burning Joe’s hands before he jammed a metal pry-bar through the spokes to lock it in place.
The thrumming from the other side of the door was so loud it made the water in our plastic bottles vibrate. But the door held.
We were safe. Temporarily.
MONSTER SPEC SHEET: THE CURDTECH "BIG CHEESE"
(Compiled by Dr. Vance while huddling under a massive power transformer)
We are no longer dealing with a simple virus, guys. CurdTech created a monster. Here is the operational data Dr. Vance gave us while he checked his own pulse:
- Classification: Bio-Organic Compliance Enforcer (The Abomination).
- Height: ~8'2" of pure, mutated corporate hubris.
- Primary Weapon: Fused multi-limb sledgehammer arm. Can punch through reinforced concrete and HR policy.
- Vocal Frequency: 40Hz sub-bass thrum. Causes mild nausea and extreme existential dread in a 50-yard radius.
- Behavioral Note: Unlike regular Zom Zoms, it doesn't want to eat your shoulder jerky. It wants to clear the area. It is a biological broom designed to sweep survivors into a corner.
BRENDA’S CRISIS MANAGEMENT DIRECTIVE
Now that we are trapped in a room full of humming machinery and high-voltage warnings, Brenda has assumed total operational command of the Generator Room. She wrote these rules on a dusty breaker box:
- NO TOUCHING THE GLOWING BITS: The main generator outputs 4,160 volts. If you lean against it because you are tired, you will turn into charcoal. Charcoal cannot perform tasks.
- THE DOG PROTOCOL: Buster is the early warning system. If Buster growls at the floor, it means the monster is trying to dig through the maintenance tunnels. If Buster growls at Dave, it just means Dave smells like fear and liquid fabric softener.
- AIR RATIONING: The ventilation filters are officially operating at 30% efficiency. To conserve oxygen, all complaints, whining, and rhetorical questions regarding the meaning of life are strictly prohibited.
The Sputter
"We have a problem," Joe said, wiping sweat and grease from his forehead with the back of his sleeve. He pointed to the center of the room, where a massive, V12 diesel generator was humming.
Except it wasn't a smooth hum. It was a rhythmic, choking sputter.
Chug-chug-cough-sputter.The overhead emergency lights dimmed, pulsing from a bright crimson to a dull, dying orange.
"The fuel lines," Dr. Vance said, leaning heavily against a tool bench. "Miller mentioned it before he went rogue. The main diesel tank is external. It’s located in the stadium's loading bay, directly above us. If the automated pump line clogs... the generator dies. The air stops flowing. The blast doors lose their electromagnetic seals."
"And if the doors lose their seals?" I asked, looking at the vibrating iron wheel on the hallway door.
Joe looked at me, his face deadpan. "Then the Big Cheese out there doesn't even have to knock. The door just slides open and asks him to come in."
Chug... chug... cough...The lights went completely black for three terrifying seconds before the emergency battery backup kicked in with a weak, pathetic whine.
We have to go to the surface. Not for a lifestyle choice, not for coffee, but to fix a diesel pump in a stadium full of undead soldiers and a giant, multi-armed corporate bioweapon.
Brenda looked at her modified license-plate shiv, then at my titanium-scalpel stick, and finally at Dave, who was still vibrating at a molecular level from the adrenaline shot.
"Excellent," Brenda said, her eyes glinting in the dim orange light. "A field assignment. Pack your bags, team. We're going to the loading dock."
